DIY Guide To Waxing Your Upper Lip

One thing women are always conscious about is the thin line of upper lip hair. What can be more embarrassing than being compared to men just because you grow a light mustache? While some may embrace this natural phenomenon, others may feel terrible about it and want to wax it immediately. You may opt for threading or waxing, but given any procedure, it is always accompanied by pain and trouble. Making time from your busy schedule and visiting the salon can further add to the trouble. If your facial skin is very sensitive, you need to take care while grooming yourself because waxing can lead to redness, rashes, marks, and even bruises. Therefore, this article will discuss two fundamental ways by which wax can be prepared at home and used to keep you away from the negatives of the traditional method.

Is It Necessary To Remove Facial Hair?

Unrealistic beauty standards have made us believe that women are born with natural hairless facial skin. But having facial hair is normal. However, over 10% of women suffer from excessive body hair, which also includes facial hair. There can be two possible reasons for this phenomenon:

Excessive Testosterone – Women who have excessive testosterone, a male sex hormone, can have hair overgrowth on the face, a process common in males.

Health-Related Conditions – Conditions like menopause or polycystic ovaries syndrome cause a hormonal imbalance in your body, one of the reasons for excessive facial hair. Pregnancy and heredity are two other aspects that can cause the same problem.

What Are The Procedures To Get Rid Of Facial Hair?

Facial Waxing – The most common and traditional method of facial hair removal uses wax.

Laser Hair Removal – A cosmetically approved procedure that removes the hair follicles from the roots using laser technology.

Depilatory Creams – However, hair removal creams that use synthetic components do not remove the hair follicles from the roots.

Threading – Another procedure that is budget-friendly but painful and makes the use of thread.

Shaving – Using a razor, however, this method is not advised for women.

Tweezing – Using tweezers that act like forceps to pinch out strands of hair.

Can I make a Wax At Home?

Of course, you can! However, once you get the hang of it, you will never want to use the traditional wax ever again. Preparing your wax at home can be amazing and will also save some time and money. Look at these three types of waxes that you can make at home.

Sugar Wax – The major component of this wax is sugar, as the name suggests. Incorporated along with sugar is salt, lemon juice, or any citric acid along with water. It’s highly versatile, and you can use it on any type of skin, irrespective of the body part.

Soft Wax – Its core components include oils and rosins incorporated into granulated sugar, honey, and lemon juice. Usually suitable for less-sensitive and larger surface areas like the hands and legs.

Hard Wax – This is a mixture of olive oil, coconut oil, vitamins, beeswax, and rosins. Highly suitable for sensitive and small surface areas such as the face, underarms, and bikini lines and doesn’t need wax strips. Apart from the usual ingredients, you can add cocoa powder, honey, powdered fruit mix, and fruit juice to the hot or soft wax, filling it with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. You can then use this wax on highly sensitive parts of the body, like facial skin, to remove upper lip hair.

Make Your Hair Removal Wax At Home!

Sugar With Lemon Juice

Ingredients:

  • One cup brown/white sugar
  • Two tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • One tablespoon water

Instructions:

In a saucepan, heat together the sugar, lemon juice, and water on medium flame. Keep stirring the solution for 10 minutes so that the consistency is equivalent to honey. Turn off the heat and let the wax cool for a few minutes. With a spatula, spread the wax gently onto your facial skin. With a cotton cloth, press the wax smoothly and then move the cloth opposite the hair. Keep repeating the step until all the wax removes all of your hair.

Sugar With Honey

Ingredients:

  • One cup brown/white sugar
  • Half cup raw honey
  • Half cup Water

Instructions:

Pour the ingredients into a pot and let it boil for 35 seconds. The wax should turn brown, giving a smooth consistency. Let the wax cool for a few minutes, and then with a spatula, apply it thoroughly on the facial hair. Next, with a cotton cloth, press the wax and swiftly pull it in a direction opposite to the hair growth. Repeat this step until you are hair-free.

Steps To Consider

  1. – Clean your face thoroughly with water to get rid of oily skin and dead cells.
  2. – Always remove hair in the direction opposite to the hair growth.
  3. – Your hair should be more than 1cm long to wax.
  4. – Do not wax areas of acne, inflammation, rash, and bruises.
  5. – Make sure to clean your face with clean water after the waxing procedure.
  6. – Apply baby lotion or coconut oil to get rid of the excess wax.

The Bottom Line!

Facial hair can be troublesome, especially if you have thick growth. However, with proper grooming care, you can get rid of this unwanted facial hair. You can store homemade wax for two weeks and preheat it before the next use. With minimal side effects, this procedure is undoubtedly better than the traditional one.
